McCain rejects Obamacare reform again
Arizona Senator John McCain for a second time has likely killed Republican efforts to reform the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare). National Review editor Rich Lowrie criticizes “The GOP’s hurry-up-and-give-up cycle on Obamacare,” echoing one of McCain’s rationalizations for his vote.
Meanwhile, the Republican bill’s foremost opponent, late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel, turns out to have been getting his talking points from Senate Democratic majority leader Chuck Schumer.
However, former Pennsylvania Rick Santorum, the intellectual author of the Graham-Cassidy bill, believes the bill isn’t dead yet.

A mass evacuation has been ordered in Puerto Rico, following the bursting of a major dam weakened by Hurricane Maria.
Global warming advocates, who have sought to blame this season’s hurricanes on fossil-fuel use, have received a setback in a new report by climate scientists.
North Korea and Iran again
Hwasong-14 missile launch
North Korea is threatening to explode an H-bomb over the Pacific Ocean. This would likely cause radioactive fallout over the ocean and adjacent continents. A U.S. arms control expert claims that North Korea’s existing Hwasong-14 missile “could reach Chicago” and couldn’t be stopped by “current U.S. anti-missile defenses.”
Iran claims it has just successfully tested a new missile with a 1200-mile range.
Argentine prosecutors meanwhile have concluded that prosecutor Alberto Nisman was murdered just before he was expected to testify that former president Cristina Kirchner helped Iranian officials cover up Iran’s role in the Buenos Aires bombing of a Jewish community center.

Education Secretary Betsy DeVos has rescinded the Obama administration’s college sexual misconduct guidelines that drastically abridged defendants’ rights to a fair trial. RedState is now taking aim at another Obama era law: the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
