Tuesday (11/7/2017) Equal opportunity failure in the US military

The Sutherland Springs, TX massacre of 26 churchgoers could have been prevented had the Air Force reported the killer’s court-martial conviction for domestic violence to the FBI’s gun license database. By not reporting Devin Kelley’s conviction for domestic violence, Kelley was able to make multiple legal gun purchases in Texas that he otherwise would have been blocked from doing. This follows an Army court martial’s near exoneration of deserter Bowe Bergdahl and two fatal and neglectful naval collisions in the Pacific. The failures in the three branches — Air Force, Army, and Navy — constitutes a kind of equal opportunity failure in the US military. The world — especially East Asia — is too dangerous a place for such carelessness to continue.

North Korea and Bolshevism’s Centennial

North Korea’s nuclear test site near the Chinese border is reportedly an ecological wasteland, with local residents reporting an increase in the birth of deformed babies and loss of underground water supply. The Chinese government of Xi Jinping, rather than using its power to bring North Korea’s Kim Jong-un regime to its knees, continues to indulge its belligerent proxy by returning to North Korea refugees who fled to China begging for asylum. If returned, the refugees will be immediately sent to North Korean gulags.

This is the centennial of the violent Bolshevik overthrow of Russia’s democratic Kerensky government. Communist governments in the Soviet Union, China, Cambodia, Cuba, and North Korea exterminated an estimated 100 million people in those hundred years — and some of Lenin’s successor governments are still around.

Former U.S. ambassador John Bolton and Founders Broadsheet have called for the North Korean crisis to be settled by unification and denuclearization of the Korean peninsula under the South Korean government. Either the Xi Jinping government isn’t interested or the US and its allies in the region haven’t been active enough in pursuing this option. If so, as Bolton says, that leaves just one option: that the US may have to act on its own — that is, militarily.

Tax reform

It’s unfortunate that President Trump had to be out of the country for twelve days and thus unavailable to campaign in the US for the Republican tax reform package. The package was already significantly compromised when announced — as for example with the newly discovered “stealth tax” of almost 50% on the wealthy. Various interest groups are now in full season picking away at what remains, and the public is confused by the partisan crossfire regarding the bill.

Why Democrats in disarray and scandal prone

Donna Brazile’s exposes of the disarray and insider shenanigans in the Democratic Party have come at a bad time for the party, which is also staggering from one sex scandal after another involving its Hollywood and other celebrity supporters. It all began with the Harvey Weinstein scandal, but where it will end no one knows. Among the latest: Amazon Studio’s chairman Roy Price, Hollywood actor Kevin Spacey (who will now join Harvey Weinstein at The Meadows), and movie director Roman Polanski, with five new accusations of sexual assault.

Why are Democrats so prone to sex and corruption scandals? The key is to be found in the response of many Democrats to the Sutherland Springs, TX massacre — rejecting President Trump and House Majority Leader Ryan’s calls for prayer: “The responses have to be read to be believed,” writes Wall Street Journal columnist William McGurn: “Here’s one of the more charming: ‘The murdered victims were in a church,’ tweeted actor Wil Wheaton to Mr. Ryan. ‘If prayers did anything, they’d still be alive, you worthless sack of [expletive].’

“Sen. Elizabeth Warren chose less inflammatory wording for her own tweet. ‘Thoughts & prayers are not enough, GOP,’ wrote the Massachusetts Democrat….In short, if you are a Republican praying instead of passing gun control, you’ve got blood on your hands.

“The Huffington Post devoted an entire piece to the phenomenon, under the headline ‘People Fed Up With Thoughts and Prayers’ Demand Action After Texas Church Massacre.’ It featured tweets from celebrities and gun-control advocates who believe they had discovered something big: Prayers aren’t always answered.

“Here’s how these new theologians put it. Keith Olbermann: ‘Thoughts and prayers’ again, @realDonaldTrump, idiot? These people were in CHURCH. They WERE praying.’ Actress Marina Sirtis: ‘To all those asking for thoughts and prayers for the victims in #churchshooting, it seems that your direct line to God is not working.’ Or MSNBC’s Joy Reid: ‘Remember when Jesus of Nazareth came upon thousands of hungry people, and rather than feeding them, thought and prayed?'”

The pattern is clear enough: the Democrats’ celebrity supporters have nothing but contempt for those who believe in a higher being or law.

Which brings us back to the sex scandals and the Democratic celebrities’ propensity for these relative to Republicans: the latter believe in a higher moral law. The former, like the Bolsheviks before them, don’t. Power, the power of being a powerful celebrity, not the moral law, is their guiding principle.

And Donna Brazile? Remember how she infamously cheated in the second presidential debate by telling Hillary Clinton the questions beforehand.
