In a previous Founders Broadsheet we outlined the contours of what we consider a good US immigration policy would look like. We said that among the qualifications that should be demanded of permanent residents eligible to become citizens would be a “cultural background likely to adapt well to life in the US and its laws” and “likely adaptability to US polity and mores.” Today’s American Greatness has a feature article by Angelo Codevilla that provides the essential political and philosophical background to those brief specifications. His article, “Trump Risks Debasing American Citizenship,” is today’s “must read.” Codevilla explains that the immigration fight isn’t just about filling vacant jobs or getting 60 votes to pass some DACA – Wall compromise through the Senate. It’s about whether the US is to be a constitutional republic as the Founders conceived it or the Brave New World welfare state the Democrats seek by importing a captive clientele uncommitted to traditional US values. Who becomes a citizen needs to be regarded as a foundational decision, not a horse trade.
Life under the Democrats
Democrats love to campaign about the inequality in American life and how important it is to tax the rich and let Democratic politicians distribute the tax wealth to the poor. So how does that work out in practice? We know the answer: it’s California, America’s Poverty Capital.
Democratic Party pols want to regulate how much sugar you eat, how much energy you consume, what news sources are available to you, and how many children you have. Malthus, Keynes, Piketty — these are the Democrats’ favorite economists, all redistributionists and advocates of central government control over property rights and the economy. Former Hillary Clinton campaign manager John Podesta has just come out openly as a population control advocate, uniting all the Democrats’ favorite Malthusian themes: population control by abortion, bigger government, more regulation, redistribution rather than new wealth creation, and energy restriction to “save” the planet.
Republican exposé of Obama administration corruption continues
This video (ca. 30 minutes) by federal prosecutor Joe diGenova is the best available summary of the Obama administration’s corruption of the FBI and Justice Department — to throw the recent presidential election to Hillary Clinton and then, when that failed, to destroy the Trump presidency. We highly recommend that readers take the time to view it.
Other important recent coverage of the Obama / Justice Department corruption scandals include:
- Inspector General Michael Horowitz’s recovery of five months of supposedly missing emails between Peter Strzok and Lisa Page;
- Senate Judiciary Committee Chuck Grassley’s criminal referral of Christopher Steele to the Justice Department;
- Congressional Democrats’ attempts to prevent information gleaned from corruption investigations being released either to Congress or the public.
