A North Korean EMP attack could devastate the U.S. power grid

A North Korean EMP attack “could indefinitely shut down the electric power grid and kill 90 percent of ‘all Americans’ within a year,” Congress was warned yesterday. Astonishingly, neither the Trump administration nor Republicans in Congress have mobilized on an emergency basis to address decades of funding neglect of the U.S. anti-ballistic missile (ABM) program, leaving the U.S. vulnerable to a North Korean EMP attack.

Nor have they, even within present budgetary constraints, conducted an urgently needed rebalancing of ABM program priorities.

Two weeks ago, security strategist Angelo Codevilla published a withering attack on President Trump’s foreign policy, following an earlier attack on the administration’s Iran policy.

As we go to press, President Trump is expected to announce a partial economic boycott against Iran by denying funding to its Revolutionary Guard. He is also withdrawing the U.S. from active membership in the U.N.’s virulently anti-Israel UNESCO organization.

Trump’s domestic achievements

There is no question that Trump’s domestic achievements have been more noteworthy than his foreign policy.

Judicial appointments

His indisputably greatest triumph has been his judicial appointments, as Wall Street Journal columnist Kimberley Strassel explains today in an article titled “Scalia all the way down.”

Senate Majority Leader McConnell played a key role in the confirmation of Justice Gorsuch

Senate Majority Leader McConnell played a key role in the confirmation of Justice Gorsuch

His key partner in this effort has been the much-maligned Senate Majority Leader McConnell. Good judicial appointments have been his first priority, and it was he above all who made possible Justice Gorsuch’s appointment to the Court. Despite this, McConnell has been subjected to continuous attacks from President Trump, Bannonites, and conservatives both in Congress and out.

Affordable Care Act (ACA) modifications

The President’s  Affordable Care Act (ACA) modifications this week by executive order have been well-received by health care experts at both conservative and libertarian policy organizations.

Amazon’s Progressive newspaper, the Washington Post, is trying to use President Trump’s executive actions to transfer blame for the ACA’s unraveling onto President Trump. Its lead headline today reads:

“Trump now owns the broken health-care system”

25th Amendment vs Trump

Washington Post’s “Never Trump” columnist, Jennifer Rubin

Progressives are hoping they’ll be able to oust President Trump by means of the 25th Amendment, Section 4, assisted by “Never Trump ” Republicans and journalists. Senator Corker claims that Trump is unstable and infantile, and  “Never Trump” Republicans domiciled at the Washington Post, including Michael Gerson and Jennifer Rubin have been ringing the changes on this message.
